Lady ‘Landers basketball to host fundraiser

The Lady ‘Landers are hitting the water for a fundraiser. Cloudland basketball will be hosting a unique paddle boarding fundraiser on Monday, July 25 at Fish Springs Marina on Watauga Lake. For $10 a person, you will be able to rent a paddle board with all proceeds going to the Cloudland basketball program. Typically, the rental cost is $40. Happy Valley Baseball to host golf tournament

Happy Valley baseball is about to hit the links. The Warriors will host the inaugural Happy Valley Baseball Golf Tournament on Friday, July 29 at the Elizabethton Golf Course. The tournament will be a four-person captain’s choice with a $200 entry fee. The entry fee includes lunch, tee gift and golf. Awards will be given Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive in addition to the door prizes. HHS football named male team of the year

The Hampton football team captured another honor. The Bulldogs were selected as the Best of Carter County Sports Male Team of the Year after their record run in the 2015 season. Hampton rolled to the another conference title with a 7-0 mark in the Region 1-2A race. HHS finished with a 13-1 record – including a 12-game winning streak. The Bulldogs were unable to rally in the state semifinals with a 55-17 loss to Marion County. During the season, Hampton outscored opponents 677-274. Rangers’ District title game takes Male Game of the Year

Of all the thrilling games this year, one winner take all matchup stood above the rest. Unaka baseball captured the District 1-A title with a thrilling 4-2 victory over South Greene at Tusculum College in the 2016 Best of Carter County Sports Male Game of the Year. After the Rangers fell 10-4 in the night’s first game, Unaka had seven innings of work standing between them and the District 1-A title. Elizabethton-GP tabbed Girls’ Game of the Year

For the Carter County Sports Girls’ Game of the Year, it was none other then one with high stakes. Elizabethton’s thrilling 48-44 victory over Gatlinburg-Pittman in the Girls’ Class AA Sectional captured the girls’ game of the year in the Best of Carter County Sports awards. Kayla Marosites scored 17 of Elizabethton’s 18 second-half points to power the Lady Cyclones to a state tournament berth inside a packed Treadway Gymnasium.
