Brackets set for 2017 playoffs

The brackets for the 2017 TSSAA Playoffs are set. In Class A, top-seed from Region 1-A Cloudland (8-2) will welcome Region 2-A No. 4 Midway (5-5) to Orr Field for first-round action with the winner advancing to play the winner of Region 2-A No. 2 Coalfield (9-1) and Region 1-A No. 3 Hancock County (2-8). ‘Landers squeak past Copper Basin in nonconference play

Cloudland hosted Senior Night festivities on Friday night, but Copper Basin looked to spoil the party. The ‘Landers held off an upset-minded Copper Basin squad as CHS picked up a 26-20 win at Orr Field to close out the regular season. Cloudland finishes the regular season with an 8-2 record. Triston Lacy struck quickly for the ‘Landers. Lacy picked up the opening kickoff and took off as he raced 78 yards for a touchdown as CHS took an early 6-0 lead. Elizabethton rolls past Central

It wasn’t pretty at times, but Elizabethton took care of business on Friday night. The Cyclones steamrolled Sullivan Central to a 50-14 victory to close out the regular season. Elizabethton had previously secured the Region 1-4A No. 2 seed and moved to 8-2 on the season with the win at Central. Elizabethton started quickly as Corey Russell broke free on the game’s opening offensive play for a 68-yard touchdown and then added an 11-yard score to push the Cyclone lead to 14-0. Rangers drop season finale

Unaka closed out the 2017 season with a battle. The Rangers were unable to edge ahead in a 45-26 loss to Sunbright despite a hard-fought effort at Goddard Field. John Boy Ramsey threw for four touchdowns in the game. Blake Isaacs caught a pair of touchdown passes (8-yards and 25-yards). Sams powers HV past South Greene

Brayden Sams and Happy Valley had a successful business trip to Greeneville. The Warriors picked up a 28-7 victory over South Greene to conclude the regular season and lock up the No. 2 seed for the playoffs. HV finishes the regular season with a 7-3 record.
