There will be a new face at the helm of the girls’ basketball program at Happy Valley.

Larry Abel resigned on Tuesday afternoon as coach of the Lady Warrior program after six years. Abel confirmed the move to Carter County Sports.

“After much thought and prayer, I decided to step down as Coach,” Abel said through text. “I resigned today and at this time I plan to focus on my upcoming marriage, family and other things in my life. I have been blessed to have the opportunity to coach at my alma mater. I feel very blessed that six years ago I was given the opportunity to be Head Coach of the Happy Valley Lady Warriors and I will always cherish that time.”

The program had several highlights under the helm of Abel – including a District 1-AA championship a season ago. The Lady Warriors were also frequent 20+ win teams under the direction of Abel.

“I will always be a Warrior for Life and I can truly say that being the head coach of the Lady Warriors has been one of the great experiences of my life.”
