Basketball Round-up: Hampton, Cloudland wins highlight Thursday action

Hampton 69, Coalfield 47 (Boys)
The Bulldogs opened the Harriman Christmas Classic with a strong win over the Yellow Jackets. Hampton, who doubled up Coalfield in the second quarter 22-11, took a 40-25 lead into the half and never looked back.

Dru Owens led the way with 28 points, while Hunter Davenport added 13 points. Jordan Bentley tossed in 10 points. Gavin Hardin scored seven points for the Bulldogs.

Hampton 68, Watertown 36 (girls)
The Lady Bulldogs bounced back from an overtime loss on the opening day of the Under Armour Classic with a 68-36 victory over Watertown.

Hampton jumped out to a 24-9 lead and cruised to the win.

Shy Tuelle had 25 points to lead Hampton, while Kinzey Hill added 11 points. Stephanie Campbell scored 10 points.


Cherokee County (Ala.) 53, Unaka 50 (Girls)
Lexi Garland scored 24 points, but the Lady Rangers were unable to edge back ahead against their Alabama opponent at the Sergeant York Southeastern Christmas Invitational at York Institute.

Sarah Tipton added eight points, while Sydney Markland and Myah Parlier had six points apiece.

Cloudland 65, Midway 62 (Boys)
The ‘Landers erased an early hole to storm back to a win at the Harriman Christmas Classic.
CHS, who trailed 18-9 at the end of the first quarter, tied the game at 30-30 at the half. The back-and-forth affair went Cloudland’s way in the second half.

Robert Leeper led Cloudland with 29 points, and Malachi Benfield added eight points. Dillon Johnson and Josh Blair and six points apiece.
