Best of Carter County Sports: Moment of the Year

It was only a 15-footer, but it was the biggest shot of the year. For that, it earned the Best of Carter County Sports Moment of the Year.
Hampton’s Cody McClain hit a 15-footer with five seconds to play to end a 10-3 run and punch the Bulldogs ticket to Murfreesboro with a 55-53 TSSAA Class A substate victory over Grace Christian.
After Hampton trailed 9-7 at the end of the first quarter, the Bulldogs battled bad to tie the game at 25-25 at the half.
The Rams used a 7-2 run in the third quarter to get some breathing room. However, Hampton battled back to pull within two points headed to the final stanza.
Grace Christian maintained a four-point advantage for most of the fourth as they held 50-45 advantage late in the game.
However, McClain and company wouldn’t be denied on their home floor.
A quick 5-0 run tied the game with a minute and a half to play, and Hampton hit a trey to take the lead shortly after. With 24 seconds remaining, Grace Christian hit a long 3-pointer to tie the game.
From there, McClain answered the bucket with his 15-footer to send the Bulldogs back to Murfreesboro.
