The force was with Elizabethton on Saturday night. That force was Conley Bowers.

Elizabethton rolled to a 74-53 victory over Sullivan East on Saturday at Sullivan East in the District 1-AA tournament. The win moves the Cyclones to Tuesday’s title game against Sullivan South.

Bowers controlled the game in the paint and that proved to be the spark that the Cyclones needed. Bowers and Bo Pless scored the game’s opening points and Michael Robinson pushed the EHS lead to 6-0 with a basket. Bowers and Pless each struck again to give Elizabethton a 10-1 lead, and after the teams traded shots Bowers’ sixth point of the game gave the Cyclones a 20-11 lead after a quarter of play.

Sullivan East closed the gap to four points in the second quarter, but back-to-back baskets by Bowers snapped the run. Austin Cornett and Robinson each 3-pointers to push the lead back to double-digits before the Cyclones took a 32-25 advantage into the second half.

In the third quarter, the Patriots pulled within six points, but a late Elizabethton run gave the Cyclones a 53-39 lead heading to the fourth quarter. From there, Elizabethton kept Sullivan East at bay to secure the win.

Bowers and Robinson finished with 16 points apiece, while Pless tallied 11 points. Cornett and Greene added 10 points apiece.

Gavin Grubb led East with 16 points.
