‘Betsy Boys win sixth straight

It was home sweet homecoming for the Cyclones.

Elizabethton held off Daniel Boone for a 70-53 victory on Friday night for their sixth straight victory.

The Cyclones jumped out early with three straight 3-pointers, two of which came from Austin Cornett. After the Trailblazers added their first trey of the night, Elizabethton went on a 7-2 run that propelled them to a 16-7 lead after a quarter of play.

In the second quarter, Conley Bowers opened the scoring with a jumper, and Hunter Greene knocked down his second 3-pointer of the night as the Cyclones quickly extended their lead to 26-9. Daniel Boone sandwiched a Bowers jumper and a Michael Robinson trey to close the gap to 33-22 at the half.

Bo Pless and Cornett opened the second half with buckets for Elizabethton, but the Trailblazers chipped back away at the lead to pull within nine points after an 8-0 run. Tyler Nichols stopped the run with a jumper and a Cornett trey gave Elizabethton a 52-41 advantage heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Daniel Boone cut the lead back to nine points, but Cornett added another 3-pointer that powered the Cyclones on an 8-2 run to take control of the game. Teve Mushaymamunda capped off the scoring with five straight points for the Cyclones to secure the win.

Cornett led the way with 20 points, while Nichols tallied 19 points. Green tallied eight points.

Ryan Keever led Daniel Boone with 24 points.
