Blue Devils knock off Warriors

Elizabethton, Tenn – Unicoi County drilled ten 3-pointers in the first half and did not look back en route to a 69-45 win over Happy Valley Friday night on Warrior Hill.
The Blue Devils moved to 12-10 on the year while the Warriors fell to 7-13.
It was a hot start for Erwin to open up the first frame with an early 8-0 run that went into a 15-7 lead heading into the second quarter.
That shots began to fall heavily for the Blue Devils, outscoring the Warriors (32-11) to head into halftime with a 47-18 lead.
The Warriors would not back away in the second half. Tyler Torbett finished in double figures with 10 points and Sam Blevins added for nine for his final total. Both scored seven apiece in the second half.
It was too much of a deficit to overcome; however, with nine Blue Devils touching the scoring column.
Freshman Trevor Hensley led with a game-high 18 points on the night and was joined in double figures but Dylan Putman with 11.
Austin Hicks nearly finished with double digits for Happy Valley, added eight points. Rounding out the Warriors scorers included Corey Motherly (five points), Dillon Barlow (five points), and Ethan Barnett (two points). Chase and Chris Young also added a 3-pointer each.
For the Blue Devils, Davis Webb had nine points, Jacob Smith (seven points), Merrick Nicksic (six points), Will Shelton (six points), Dalton Spears (six points), Austin Hendrickson (four points) and Chase McNabb rounded out everything with two points.
In underclassmen action, the Warriors defeated the Blue Devils 52 to 49.
