The Hampton train kept on rolling in the first round.

The Bulldogs scored early and never looked back as they rolled to a 48-7 victory over Sweetwater to advance in the Class 2A playoffs. Hampton will host Austin East in the second round next Friday night. The win was also the 200th win for Hampton Head Coach Mike Lunsford.

It was also the first playoff win for the Hampton program since 2009.

Adam McClain put the Bulldogs on the board on the opening drive with a three-yard touchdown run. Trevor Waycaster added the extra point for Hampton. Sweetwater moved to midfield before being forced to punt, but recovered a Hampton fumble on the ensuing drive.

However, the Bulldogs defense rose to the occasion as they recorded a goal line stand with five plays inside the 10-yard line. Hampton opened the second quarter as Coby Jones found Jared Wiltshire for a 41-yard touchdown pass to increase the lead.

After a Wildcat three and out, Dakota Sanchez scored on a 22-yard touchdown run for the Bulldogs. Hunter Davenport stopped the next Sweetwater drive with an interception that set up a 12-play drive that was capped by a Jerry Lunsford four yard touchdown that gave the Bulldogs a 28-0 lead. That capped off the scoring for the first half.

Hampton picked up where they left off in the first half.

After Sweetwater scored to open the half, a quick six-play drive ended when Jones hit Wiltshire for a 12-yard touchdown run. The Hampton defense stood strong again with their backs against the goalline.

Lunsford took the next offensive play 39 yards, and McClain recorded a 57-yard touchdown on the next play as the Bulldogs held a 41-7 advantage heading to the fourth quarter.

In the final period, Lunsford capped off the scoring with a 15-yard run.

Lunsford led the way with 172 yards on 14 carries, while McClain tallied 87 yards on nine carries. Jones finished the game 10-of-16 passing for 206 yards and two scores, while adding 84 yards on 14 carries.

Wiltshire finished the game with 144 yards on six catches.
