Bulldogs, Lady Bulldogs take wins over Unaka

Hampton ruined the party on Stoney Creek on Monday night despite a hard fought Unaka effort.

Hampton picked up a 65-47 victory over Unaka in the boys’ game, while the Lady Bulldogs took a 45-36 win over the Lady Rangers.


In the girls’ game, Hampton jumped out to an early lead, but the Lady Rangers closed the gap to 10-7 after a quarter of play with a late first quarter shot. The Lady Bulldogs got a little breathing room in the second stanza. Unaka, however, wouldn’t go away as they continued to hang around as HHS led 25-18 at the half.

Neither team was able to mount a run a in the second half as Unaka continued to put pressure on the Lady Bulldogs.

Shy Tuelle had a game-high 19 points, while Kaysi Royston had 10 points. Stephanie Campbell added eight points.

For the Lady Rangers, Savannah Tipton recorded nine points, while Myah Parlier had eight points. Sydney Markland added six points to the Unaka cause.

In the boys’ game, a fast third-quarter start proved to be the difference for the Bulldogs.

The young Rangers jumped out early and took a 16-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. After Unaka pushed the lead to double-digits, Hampton battled back with an 11-0 run to regain the lead. The teams traded shots and Hampton took a 29-28 lead into the locker room at half.

The Bulldogs, however, took full control in the second half. Hampton jumped out with a 12-1 run and never looked back enroute to the victory.

Dru Owens led the way for Hampton with 23 points, while Gavin Hardin added nine points. Jordan Bentley tallied seven points in the win.

Isaac Hill paced Unaka with 13 points. Ryan Johnson recorded 12 points for the Rangers.
