Bulldogs roll, Lady Bulldogs fall late at Chuckey-Doak

The second quarter proved to be a nightmare and a dream for Hampton basketball on Friday night.

The Bulldogs used a strong second quarter to roll to a 95-58 victory over Chuckey-Doak, but the Lady Bulldogs saw the Lady Black Knights rally in the second to take a 53-47 win.

For the Hampton boys, Nathan Norris sparked the Bulldogs to a 15-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs took control of the game in the second quarter by outscoring the Black Knights 31-18 to take an 18-point advantage at the half.

After CD kept Hampton from extending the lead, the Bulldogs pulled away even further in the final quarter with a 32-12 frame.

Norris led the way with 19 points while Wyatt Lyons added 14 points. Chris Holtsclaw and Coby Jones had 12 and 10 points, respectively, while Jose Velazquez tossed in nine points.

The Hampton girls held the momentum early. The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 20-8 first quarter lead. However, the Lady Black Knights answered in the second quarter by outscoring Hampton 16-5. That closed the HHS lead to 25-24 at the half.

The Lady Bulldogs maintained a slim lead after three quarters of play. Chuckey-Doak, however, was able to deliver the knockout punch in the closing minutes to take the win.

Shy Tuelle had 18 points, while Alexus Grubbs added 12 points. Kenzie Hill and Megan Garland added five and four points, respectively.
