It was a typical conference clash between Cloudland and University High. In the end, it was the Bucs who had the answer.

Cloudland was unable to answer late as University High held on to take a 48-42 victory on Tuesday night inside Brooks Gym. It was the first sweep of the ‘Landers by the Bucs since 2007-08.

The ‘Landers jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter as Zac Benfield tallied four points to help CHS take an 8-3 lead after a quarter of play. University High battled back quickly in the second quarter to take a 17-13 lead midway through the frame. However, baskets from Preston Benfield and Z. Benfield tied the game up at 17-17, but UH pushed ahead to a 23-17 advantage at the half.

After the Bucs opened the second half with a jumper, Cloudland went on a 12-0 run sparked by a Dalton Vines jumper and was capped by a Jesse Potter bucket. Dustin Estes, however, scored the last five points of the quarter forUniversity High to give the Bucs a 30-29 lead entering the final stanza.

Despite buckets from Z. Benfield and P. Benfield, Cloudland saw the Bucs edge the lead to seven points with shots by Dayshawn Hamilton and Lowell Williams. The ‘Landers trimmed the lead back to five points a couple of times in the final minutes, but that was as close as they could get.

Z. Benfield had a team-high 15 points, while P. Benfield tallied 11 points. Vines tossed in 10 points for the Cloudland cause.

UH was paced by Dustin Estes’ 19 points.
