Two Carter County teams made appearances in the first statewide AP football rankings that was released on Tuesday as Cloudland and Hampton were ranked.

The Highlanders were ranked fourth in the Class A poll. Cloudland, who climbed as high as No. 2 in the poll last season, is currently 2-0 with wins over Avery County (N.C.) and Happy Valley. Union City was ranked first, with Nashville Christian and Greenback rounding out the top three.

Hampton was ranked 10th in the Class AA poll. The Bulldogs are 1-1 on the season with a win over Unicoi County, but fell last week to Onieda. Grace Christian, Adamsville and Trousdale County comprise the top three of the poll.

Cloudland hosts conference foe Cosby on Friday, while Hampton will open conference play with a trip to Unaka.
