Cloudland holds steady, Elizabethton drops two spots in AP poll

Cloudland held stead in the latest AP Prep Football poll, while Elizabethton fell two spots in this week’s edition.

In Class A, the ‘Landers were ranked No. 6 with 90 points. Cloudland, who clinched the Region 1-A title by rolling past Jellico, was 17 points behind No. 5 South Pittsburg – who dropped from No. 2 to No. 5 this week.


Greenback recorded 16-of-18 first-place votes to remain ranked first, while Cornersville improved to No. 2. Huntingdon and Whitwell were ranked No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.

In Class 4A, the Cyclones dropped to No. 5 after the tough loss to No. 1 Greeneville. EHS tallied 108 points to rank 10 points behind No. 4 Dyersburg.

The Greene Devils continued to pace the poll, while Anderson County and Jackson South Side were ranked No. 3 and No. 4.

Other local teams ranked includes Johnson County (No. 5 in Class 3A), Unicoi County (No. 10 in Class 3A), David Crockett (No. 4 in Class 5A) and Daniel Boone (No. 6 in Class 5A).

Cloudland is set to host Johnson County on Friday, while Elizabethton will travel to Sullivan South.
