Cloudland remains steady, Hampton improves in AP poll

The Tennessee AP Prep Football Top 10 continues to have a strong Carter County flavor as Cloudland and Hampton were ranked inside the top five in this week’s poll.

The 4-0 ‘Landers remained third in this week’s Class A poll. Cloudland, who defeated 4A Johnson County 26-12 last Friday night, received one first place vote to end the poll with a total of 135 points. Defending Class A State Champion Union City tallied 15 first place votes to place first in the poll, while Greenback recorded two votes to place second in the poll.

The Bulldogs rallied late to defeat Class 3A Happy Valley with a 28-21, and were rewarded with a four spot jump to No. 5 in the Class 2A  poll. Hampton, who is 3-1 on the season, tallied 80 points. Trinity Christian Academy recorded 16 first place votes to place first in the poll, while Adamsville and Grace Christian, who received two first place votes, rounded out the top three.

Other Upper East Tennessee teams ranking in the polls include Science Hill (No. 5) and Dobyns-Bennett (No. 6) in Class 6A, Tennessee High (No. 8) in Class 5A, Greeneville (No. 3) and Sullivan South (No. 9) in Class 4A.

Cloudland returns to action on Friday as they host Unaka for Homecoming 2014, while Hampton is off prior to a trip to Johnson County on September 26.
