Cloudland rises, Elizabethton holds steady in AP poll

Cloudland climbed the rankings while Elizabethton held steady in this week’s Tennessee AP Prep Football poll.

The ‘Landers jumped one spot to No. 6 in Class A. Cloudland, who steamrolled past Avery County (N.C.) on Friday night, was 37 points behind No. 5 Whitwell.


Greenback claimed 14-of-16 first-place votes to capture the top spot, while South Pittsburg and Cornersville were ranked second and third, respectively.

In Class 4A, Elizabethton held firm at No. 3. The Cyclones, who picked up a big victory over Daniel Boone on Friday, finished 16 points behind No. 2 Anderson County.

Region foe Greeneville was the unanimous No. 1 claiming all 16 first-place votes.

Other local teams ranked includes Tennessee High (No. 9 in Class 5A), Daniel Boone (No. 10 in Class 5A), Johnson County (No. 8 in Class 3A) and Sullivan North (No. 5 in Class 2A).

Cloudland is set to host Hancock County on Friday, while Elizabethton will travel to Grainger.
