For two and a half quarters, the Lady ‘Landers were locked in a nip and tuck battle. However, Cloudland had the knockout punch.

The Lady ‘Landers used a 19-0 run to close the third quarter and roll to a 60-40 victory over Northview Academy in the Region 1-A Quarterfinals on Monday night in Kodak.

With the win, Cloudland moves to take on South Greene in the Region 1-A semifinals with a substate berth on the line.

The first quarter saw offense come at a premium before the Lady ‘Lander took advantage of Lady Cougar turnovers to take a 10-3 lead into the second quarter as Peyton Johnson scored six points in the frame.

Johnson scored five points in the second quarter, but Northview trimmed the CHS lead to 19-17 at the half.

After the teams swapped the lead over the first four minutes of the third quarter, the Lady ‘Landers found another gear by heading the frame on a 19-0 run to take a 44-25 lead into the final quarter. From there, it was all Cloudland as they kept the Lady Cougars at bay to survive and advance.

Johnson finished with 20 points, while senior Kendall Mull tallied 16 points. Shian Strickland and DonRae Taylor had 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Lady ‘Landers move in Wednesday’s semifinals at Chuckey-Doak High School against South Greene. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
