The Cloudland basketball programs picked up a pair of wins on Saturday to kick off 2016.

The ‘Landers overcame an early deficit to take a 48-41 win over North Green, while the Lady ‘Landers took a narrow 54-51 victory over the Lady Huskies.

After NG held a 9-7 in the first quarter, Cloudland kept pace with North Greene. CHS trailed 23-20 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Lady ‘Landers trimmed the gap to one point and pulled ahead late in the final quarter for the key conference win.

Payton Johnson had a game-high 18 points, while Shian Strickland scored 12 points. Trinity Vines had 11 points.

Katelyn Weems led North Greene with 17 points while Lauren Baxter had 13 points.

The ‘Landers saw the Huskies open the game on a 17-7 first quarter run in the boys’ game, but battled back to trim the lead to three points entering the half. CHS stormed ahead in the third quarter, and then held on to take the win.

Preston Benfield had 21 points to lead all scorers, while Josh Blair had nine points.

Cloudland travels to Unaka on Tuesday.
