Cloudland takes two from Unaka

It was a Carter County showdown inside Sonny Smith Gymnasium on Tuesday night, and at the end of the night it was a Cloudland kind of night as well.

The ‘Landers rolled to a 67-47 victory over the visiting Unaka Rangers, the Lady ‘Landers held on to take a victory over Unaka.

The boys’ game saw the first quarter be nip and tuck before Cloudland doubled up the Rangers in the second quarter to take a 32-17 advantage into the half. Cloudland continued to hold the momentum in the second half as they kept the Rangers at bay to pick up the win.

Preston Benfield led the way with 21 points. Zac Benfield and Jesse Potter tossed in nine points and eight points apiece. Kyler Lewis led the way for Unaka with 15 points, while Joe Searfoss and Wright added eight points apiece.

In the girls’ game, Cloudland overcame an early deficit as Unaka led 10-3 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady ‘Landers quickly answered in the second quarter as they pulled within one at the break. Cloudland took the lead in the third quarter (31-30 at the end of the frame) and used a fourth quarter run to pull away and take the win.

Kendall Mull led all scorers with 20 points, while Johanna Johnson added 12 points for Cloudland. Payton Johnson finished with nine points.

Unaka saw Hannah Tipton record a team-high 10 points.
