Elizabethton protected home field on Monday in the Region 1-AA tournament.
The Cyclones picked up a 6-2 victory over Grainger County to advance to the Region 1-AA Championship game and also secure a spot in the substate round.
Elizabethton will host Greeneville in the Region 1-AA Championship game at Twins Field.
The Grizz struck first in the first inning with a single run, and Elizabethton countered as Brodie Adams hit a single down the left field line to score Michael Robinson to tie the game after one. Ethan Eggleston gave Elizabethton their first lead of the game with a deep double that scored Matthew Dailey and Colten Miller.
Neither team was able to plate a run in the fifth. After stranding a pair of Grainger runners, Evan Perkins pushed Adams across the plate to give the Cyclones a 5-1 advantage.
Grainger put a run on the board in the top of the fifth, but Robinson scored off a Perkins single to get the run back. From there, Elizabethton hit cruise control the rest of the way.
Evan Carter, Perkins and Adams went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Elizabethton. Perkins had a game-high three RBI.
Garrett Hartley picked up the win as he allowed just one earned run on four hits with six strikeouts.
