Elizabethton got in the win column in a big way on Friday.

The Cyclones scored early and often to cruise by South Greene 49-7 in the home opener.

With the win, EHS moves to 1-1 on the season.

After SG went three-and-out after recovering an onside kick, Corey Russell raced 85 yards for a touchdown, and then the junior scored his second touchdown of the night on the next EHS possession with a one-yard run. Kade Hensley’s extra point gave the Cyclones a 14-0 lead three minutes into the game.

Adam Cornett stopped the next Rebel drive with an interception. On the ensuing play, Carter Everett found Evan Perkins for a 35-yard touchdown. Everett hit Ryan Wentzel for a 17-yard score later in the quarter as EHS took a 28-0 lead into the second quarter.

Russell opened the second quarter much like the first as he scored on a 65-yard run. After the Rebels got on the board with a 12-yard touchdown pass, Wentzel and Everett connected on an 11-yard touchdown pass to counter, and then added another score with a 40-yard touchdown pass.

That gave Elizabethton a 49-7 lead going to half.

The second half saw the teams get younger players involved.

Everett finished with 281 passing yards and four scores as he went 16-of-20 passing. Russell finished the game with 133 yards on five carries with three touchdowns. As a team, Elizabethton had 556 yards of total offense.
