Cyclones, Lady Cyclones drop Three Rivers Clash with Unicoi

Elizabethton was unable to hold on in the final minutes.

The Cyclones dropped a 60-50 decision to Unicoi County in Three Rivers Conference action. In the girls’ game, the Lady Cyclones fell 54-38 to the Lady Blue Devils.


In the boys’ game, Elizabethton opened the game on a 10-2 run, but Unicoi closed the gap to 10-8 at the end of the first quarter. The teams traded points over the second quarter until EHS closed the frame on a 7-2 run to take a 30-24 advantage into the half.

Elizabethton opened the scoring with a bucket by freshman Parker Hughes, but Unicoi slowly cut into the Cyclone lead. EHS held a slim 41-40 lead after three complete quarters.

The Blue Devils struck quickly in the fourth and took an eight-point lead during the frame. EHS battled back to close within three points on shots from Eric Wilson and Hughes. The Cyclones, however, were unable to get any closer.

Adam Cornett had 15 points to lead EHS, while Evan Perkins and Wilson had nine points apiece. Luke Carrier had seven points.

The Lady Cyclones were unable to overcome a sluggish second quarter against the Blue Devils.

After the Lady Blue Devils took a 15-3 lead after a quarter of play, Elizabethton was unable to keep pace with Unicoi in the second. The Lady Cyclones were limited to just three points in the second quarter, and Unicoi took a 30-14 advantage into the half.

Elizabethton was unable to make a rally in the second half.

Camryn Koroma had 16 points to lead EHS, while Tori Roberts had 10 points.
