Cyclones, Lady Cyclones open Three Rivers play with wins

Elizabethton opened Three Rivers Conference action with a bang.

The Cyclones rolled to a 76-54 victory over Sullivan North on Monday night, while the Lady Cyclones jumped out early and never looked back in a 74-24 victory over the Lady Raiders.

In the boys’ game, Elizabethton set the tone early.

Michael Robinson and Bo Pless hit shots to give Elizabethton an early 9-2 lead, and the Cyclones quickly turned that into a 13-point advantage at the end of the first quarter. After the Raiders trimmed the lead back to single digits, Jalen Smith and Alex Norwood answered for Elizabethton. Form there, Elizabethton held a 45-29 lead at the half. The second half continued to be all Elizabethton as they held the Raiders at bay.

Robinson led the way with 15 points. Less and Norwood added 14 and 13 points, respectively. Hayden Townsend also hit double-digits with 11 points.

In the varsity opener, the Lady Cyclones started on a roll. With buckets from Kayla Marosites, Kelci Marosites and Emily Kiser, Elizabethton jumped out to a 17-2 lead quickly and held a 24-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw the Lady Cyclones outscore Sullivan North 26-9.

Ka. Marosites finished with 23 points, while Kiser finished with 19 points. Emily Schubert ended the game with 10 points.

Elizabethton is set to continue conference play on Friday with the home opener against Johnson County.
