Cyclones see season end with loss to Unicoi in Region 1-A semifinals

Elizabethton looked to keep on rolling on Tuesday night. However, a red-hot Unicoi County team got in the way.

The Cyclones dropped a 73-50 decision to the Blue Devils in the Region 1-AA semifinals after Unicoi came out firing on all cylinders on the offensive side of the ball. The loss ends an outstanding season for EHS.


On Tuesday night, Elizabethton saw UC open the game hot.

Evan Perkins countered an early Blue Devil basket, but Unicoi went on a 9-0 run before Adam Cornett and Eric Wilson hit shots to snap the run for EHS. The Blue Devils, however, extended the lead back to 10 points going into the second quarter.

In the second stanza, Nico Ashley and Wilson opened the quarter with early Cyclone points. However, Unicoi extended the lead to 18 points and maintained a 42-24 lead at the half.

Elizabethton wasn’t going down without a fight.

The third quarter saw Perkins and Wilson hit baskets to help trim the Unicoi lead to 10 points late in the stanza and 52-40 going to the final eight minutes.

An 8-0 Unicoi run grabbed the momentum back from the Cyclones and the Blue Devils maintained the advantage the rest of the way for the win.

Wilson led Elizabethton with 13 points, while Perkins added 12 points. Parker Hughes and Cornett added seven points each, while Ashley had five points.
