When it counted, the Cyclones made the plays.

Elizabethton took advantage of opportunities to take a 21-7 victory over Daniel Boone on Friday night inside Citizen’s Bank Stadium. The win moves Elizabethan to 2-1 on the year, and 2-0 inside the new home stadium.

After the teams traded possessions to open the game, no one was able to score until Hunter Tyree hit Conner Johnson for a seven-yard touchdown pass to give the Cyclones a 6-0 lead heading to the second quarter.

Daniel Boone saw a scoring opportunity go away after a fumble, and Elizabethton capitalized as Tyree hit Jeremiah Turner for a touchdown with under 10 seconds to play in the second quarter. The two-point conversion gave Elizabethton a 14-0 lead at the break.

In the third quarter, both teams moved the ball, but were unable to break into the endzone. The Cyclones added to their lead early in the fourth quarter when Drew Bowers took a Tyree pass to the house for a 73-yard score with just over 11 minutes to play.

The Trailblazers added a late score as John Briggs scored from five yards out with five minutes to play.

Tyree had an outstanding night as he finished 12-of-13 with 188 yards. Jacob Turner had 57 yards on eight carries to lead the Elizabethton ground game.

Daniel Boone’s Gabe Sanders had 178 total offensive yards – 90 passing and 88 rushing.

The Cyclones return to action on Friday with a trip to Erwin to take on Unicoi County. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
