Elizabethton took a thrilling win and another step towards Murfreesboro.

The Cyclones took a dramatic 3-2 victory over West Greene in the Region 1-AA Baseball tournament at Joe O’Brien on Monday as Evan Perkins hit a game-winning single to drive Ethan Eggleston across home plate for the winning run.

With the win, Elizabethton clinched a berth in the Region 1-AA Championship game as well as a berth in Friday’s substate action. The Cyclones will travel to Greeneville Wednesday in the Region title game.

In the early going, runs were hard to come by. West Greene put single runs on the board in the third and the fourth to take 2-0 lead going to the fifth.

The Cyclones, however, got on the board in the home side of the frame as Evan Carter plated Nick Johnson for the first EHS run. Eggleston tied the game at 2-2 as he crossed home plate on a wild pitch.

After neither team was able to get anything going in the sixth, the Elizabethton defense stranded two Buffaloes on base in the top of the seventh. That set the stage for Perkins dramatic knock to extend the Elizabethton season.

Carter was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Eggleston and Perkins had two hits apiece. Matthew Dailey and Ryan Wetzel also added a hit apiece.

On the mound, Tre Shoun pitched a gem as he allowed just one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts.
