Unaka kept on marching on Tuesday afternoon, while Cloudland fell in heartbreaking fashion in the District 1-A softball tournament.

The Lady Rangers secured a spot in the Championship game with a 12-5 victory over North Greene. The Lady ‘Landers, however, dropped a 2-1 decision to University High in a season-ending loss.

For Unaka, it was all business.

The Lady Rangers jumped out early and took a 7-2 advantage into the fourth inning. From there, Corrie Scheuttler made sure Unaka would move on to Thursday’s title game.

At the plate, Tayla Potter had four hits to pace Unaka, while Sydney Markland, Sarah Tipton and Madison Pierce had two hits apiece.

The Lady ‘Landers found themselves in a battle in the nightcap.

Cloudland took a 1-0 lead when Heaven Caraway scored off a UH error in the bottom of the first. Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard until the top of the sixth when UH brought two runners home.

Kenzie Birchfield allowed just two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in the pitching circle. She also added two hits.
