Simply put, there was one team that stood out above the rest in today’s category.
The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones basketball team had a season to remember and for that they are the Best of Carter County Sports Female Team of the Year for the second straight year.
Head Coach Len Dugger’s squad followed up last season’s state championship run with a dominate 32-1 record. Despite being upset in the Class AA semifinal, Elizabethton had one of the best seasons in school history in any sport.
The 2014-15 Lady Cyclones nearly doubled opponents by outscoring the opposition 2267-1167 throughout the year. Non conference victories over Greeneville, Science Hill and Farragut along with Christmas tournament victories over national powers Bishop England (S.C.), North Forsyth (Ga.) and Hoover (Ala.) helped highlight the season.
The Lady Cyclones join the Hampton boys’ basketball team as our first two honorees of the Best of Carter County Sports this summer. Check back throughout the week as we continue to honor the best of 2015.
