It was business as normal for the Cyclones on Friday night.

Elizabethton remained perfect in Three Rivers Conference play with a 42-13 victory over Johnson County on Friday night.

The Cyclones struck first as Caleb Armstrong found Markus Olds for a 11-yard touchdown pass, and then Ethan Thomas broke free for a 35-yard touchdown run as Elizabethton took an early 14-0 lead. Thomas scored his second touchdown of the night, this one from seven yards out, but Johnson County answered as Warren Kerley found Greg Roark for a 13-yard touchdown.

However, Thomas scored his third and fourth touchdowns of the night with runs of 26 and 17 yards. Caleb Jones gave Elizabethton a 42-6 lead at the half with a 10-yard score.

The Longhorns capped off the scoring as Cody Bailie was on the receiving end of an eight-yard touchdown pass from Kerley.

Thomas ended the game with 183 yards, while Jones had 96 yards rushing. The Elizabethton defense limited Johnson County to just 122 yards in the first half.

Quotable

“We knew we had to really improve on defense, facing a good team that could run and throw. We needed some challenges in the secondary, so we tried to get them out of the wing-T and make them throw.”
-Elizabethton Head Coach Shawn Witten
