Elizabethton climbs, Cloudland stays steady in AP poll

Elizabethton made a move while Cloudland stayed still in this week’s week Tennessee Associated Press Prep Football poll.

The Cyclones jumped two spots to No. 4 in the Class 4A poll. The Cyclones, who dispatched South Greene on Friday, recorded 116 points – which was six points behind No. 3 Haywood.


Region 1-4A foe Greeneville maintained the top spot as an unanimous No. 1, while Anderson County was ranked No. 2.

In Class A, Cloudland held steady in the No. 8 position. The ‘Landers, who rolled past North Greene on Friday night, tallied 51 points. CHS was 12 points behind No. 7 Dresden.

Greenback recorded 16-of-17 first-place votes to take the top spot, while South Pittsburg and Cornersville rounded out the top three.

Other local teams ranked included Sullivan North (who entered the poll at No. 7 in Class 2A), Johnson County (who dropped two spots to No. 9 in Class 3A after Friday’s loss to Hampton), David Crockett (No. 10 in 5A).

Elizabethton is set to host Sullivan East on Friday, while the ‘Landers are off.
