It was a heavyweight fight in Elizabethton. Unfortunately, the Cyclones were unable to deliver the last blow.

Elizabethton came up short in their quest for the Three Rivers Conference title on Thursday night as they fell 28-21 to Sullivan South.

The Rebels struck first with a 15-yard touchdown run by Josh Booker to take a 7-0 lead. However, Ethan Thomas answered quickly for Elizabethton as he raced 52-yards to pay dirt and the Logan Birchfield extra point tied the game as the game went into the second quarter knotted at seven all.

Sullivan South got back on the board when Dylan Wieger hit Christian Comsa for a 30-yard touchdown, but Caleb Jones answered for the Cyclones with a 41-yard touchdown run. Wieger put the Rebels back on the board when he ran 42 yards for a touchdown to give South a 21-14 advantage.

Thomas, however, tied the game at 21-21 right before half as he recorded a 63-yard touchdown run.

In the third quarter, Sullivan South delivered the winning punch as Wieger scored from 22 yards out. The Cyclones were unable to get back into the endzone before time expired.

Thomas wrapped up his last regular season game with 200 yards on 17 runs. Caleb Armstrong was 7-of-14 passing.

Weiger led the way with 377 total offensive yards as he rushed for 182 yards on 31 attempts. He also went 20-of-28 passing.
