Elizabethton was in control for three quarters. Unicoi County, however, had the answer when it mattered most.

The Cyclones dropped a heartbreaking 74-66 overtime loss to the Blue Devils in the District 1-AA semifinals on Saturday afternoon in Treadway Gymnasium. With the loss, EHS moves into Tuesday’s consolation game where they will take on Happy Valley.

On Saturday, the Cyclones were on fire early.

Eric Wilson, Evan Perkins, Parker Hughes, Adam Cornett and Will Miller all hit shots to help power EHS to a 22-7 lead after a quarter of play. The Cyclones held the advantage for a majority of the second quarter until the Blue Devils trimmed it to nine points going to the locker room at half.

Miller and Perkins hit shots to push the EHS lead back to double-digits, but Troy Podvin and Trevor Hensley countered for Unicoi. The Cyclones continued to keep UC at bay as they led 54-43 going to the fourth quarter.

Podvin and company quickly cut into the Elizabethton lead to open the fourth quarter. Elizabethton was able to keep getting back in the lead, but the Blue Devils were able to force overtime. In the extra period, Unicoi took advantage to take the win and advance to Tuesday’s championship tilt.

Perkins led Elizabethton with 27 points. Wilson and Hughes had 12 points apiece.
