The Lady Cyclones used a strong defensive effort to remain perfect on the season as they dispatched Farragut 58-45 on the first day of the Roundball at the Hall at Science Hill. The win moves Elizabethton to 8-0 on the season.
The Elizabethton boys, however, were unable to extend their perfect streak as they fell 62-49.
In the day’s opening game, the Lady Cyclones jumped out to a 16-12 lead after one, and then scored seven points from the free throw line in the second quarter to maintain the advantage.
Elizabethton got a little breathing room by outscoring the Lady Admirals 15-11 in the third quarter, and then secured the win with a 21-point fourth quarter.
Kayla Marosites recorded 20 points while Kelci Marosites had 11 points for Elizabethton. Sarah Robinson and Haley Burleson had eight points apiece. Megan Pietrowski finished the game with six points.
The Lady Cyclones were coached by Russ Lyons as Head Coach Len Dugger was serving the first game of a two-game TSSAA suspension.
In the boys’ game, the Cyclones were unable to recover from a sluggish third quarter as they saw a six-game winning streak halted by the Admirals.
In the first quarter, Elizabethton played Farragut even in the first quarter as the period ended knotted at 14-14, and the Cyclones edged ahead 29-28 at the half. The Admirals, however, outscored Elizabethton 14-5 to pull ahead entering the final quarter. The Cyclones tried to close the gap in the final stanza, but was unable to.
Michael Robinson paced Elizabethton with 14 points, while Austin Cornett and Tyler Nichols had nine points apiece.
