Elizabethton girls track storms to Three Rivers title

It was only fitting that the Elizabethton girls track team came out on top.
The Lady Cyclones stormed to the Three Rivers Conference title after the meet, which was originally moved up a day to avoid inclement weather, saw the start delayed due to a severe storm. The Elizabethton boys team finished second to Sullivan South, while Happy Valley girls and boys finished fourth and fifth respectively in the meet.
In the relays, the team of Kaitlyn Kincer, Jenna Eaton, Emily Matthes and Kylie Simerly won the 4 x100-meter relay for Happy Valley with a time of 54.96. Elizabethton recorded a victory in the girls 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:46.73 by the team of Mandi Largent, Elizabeth Cochran, Emily Schubert, Haley Keylon, and the Cyclones also claimed the boys 4×400-meter relay as Kyle Hinson, Daegan Kerr, Andy Johnson and Ben Carr with a time of 3:50.22.
Elizabethton’s Katie May claimed the conference crown in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 50.35, and finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a mark of 17.09. Kaitlyn Simerly of Happy Valley finished third with a mark of 18.82.
In the 100-meter dash, Ethan Thomas was edged out by Sullivan South’s Charlie McCann as Thomas recorded a mark of 11.21 for the Cylcones. After JR Speed crossed the line in third, the Warriors saw William Luster score points with a fourth place finish with a mark of 12.04.
Autumn Thomas won the 200-meter dash for Elizabethton with a time of 27.15, while the men’s event saw the 100-meter dash top two, McCann and Thomas, finish in the same places.
Kyra McCrary led the way for Elizabethton track in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.26 as the Lady Cyclones claimed three of the top four spots. Largent and Matheson finished third and fourth in the event with times of 1:05.05 and 1:06.97, respectively.
Thomas claimed a conference title in the 400-meter with a time of 53.10, while Stewart Clark and Hinson were next to cross the line. In the girls 800-meter run, the Lady Cylcone’s Abbi Pierce recorded a solid race to claim the event with a time of 2:34.03. Pierce claimed her second conference title in the 16-00-meter run with a mark of 5:42.97, while teammate Maci Shell finished in second with a time of 5:45.94.
Shell, however, would claim her title in the 3,200-meter run as she finished the event with a time of 13:17.28
In the field events, Thomas won the boys long jump with a mark of 19-11.50, while May won the girls triple jump with a mark of 33-09. Emily Schubert won the discus throw for the Lady Cyclones with a mark of 97-06.
In the pole vault, the Warriors claimed the top two positions in the boys as Timothy Morris and Chance Peters finished first and second, while Kaitlyn Simerly tied for first on the girls side. Kincer finished second in the girls long jump.
As a team, Elizabethton girls won the meet with a score of 175.5. Sullivan East was second with a score of 142, while Sullivan South finished third with 105.5 points. Happy Valley and Unicoi County rounded out the top five.
In the boys side, Sullivan South claimed the crown with a score of 207. Elizabethton was second with 133 points, while Unicoi County finished third with 70 points. Sullivan East and Happy Valley rounded out the top five.
