Elizabethton, Hampton rise in AP poll

Elizabethton and Hampton both climbed a spot in the latest Tennessee AP Prep Football polls.

The Cyclones climbed to No. 7 in the Class 3A poll after their victory over Johnson County on Friday night. Elizabethton (1-1) moved up from the No. 8 spot in last week’s poll with 66 points. Region foe Pigeon Forge is No. 6 with 84 points.

CPA is ranked first in the poll. Alcoa and CAK round out the top three. Elizabethton welcomes Daniel Boone to Citizen’s Bank Stadium on Friday.

Hampton climbed to No. 7 in the Class 2A poll after dismantling Cosby on Friday night to move to 3-0. The Bulldogs, who garnered one first-place vote, earned 69 points, and were 21 points ahead of region foe No. 8 Sullivan North.

Marion County received 17 of the 18 first-place votes to earn the No. 1 spot. Boyd Buchanan and Tyner Academy were ranked second and third. Hampton is off this week.

Other local teams in the poll included Science Hill (No. 4) and Dobyns-Bennett (No. 9) in Class 6A and Greeneville (No. 2) in Class 4A.
