It took a half for the Cyclones to get on a roll. However, they couldn’t be stopped once they got going.

Elizabethton pulled away in the second half to take a 43-7 victory over Unicoi County on Friday night in Erwin.

The win moves Elizabethton to 8-1 on the season, and sets the stage for a winner takes all battle against Sullivan South next week.

On the opening drive, it only took three plays for the Cyclones to break into the endzone as Ethan Thomas scored on a 26-yard run, and then Thomas scored from a yard out on the next drive to push the lead to 15-0 with 5:24 to play in the first quarter.

The Blue Devils converted a fake punt and another fourth down en route to score when Luke Fronckoski rumbled in from a yard out to pull within eight points midway through the second quarter. In the final minute of the first half, the Cyclones took a 22-7 lead when Thomas scored from three-yards out.

Thomas continued to lead the Cyclones in the third quarter as he scored his fourth and five touchdown in the opening minutes of the second half to push the Cyclones to a 36-7 advantage, which was the score heading into the final quarter.

Thomas capped off his incredible night with a 42-yard touchdown with 7:08 to play.

The senior Thomas finished the game with 16 carries for 211 yards, while Caleb Armstrong was 10-of-12 for 105 yards passing.

Fronckoski had 61 yards on the ground for the Blue Devils.
