A strong second half proved to be the difference in the District 1-AA Consolation game.
Elizabethton picked up a 69-56 victory over Happy Valley on Tuesday at Unicoi Count High School. Both teams are set to travel to open the Region 1-AA tournament on Saturday.
The teams traded points early before Michael Robinson and Eric Wilson hit shots to push the Elizabethton lead to 18-12 at the end of the first quarter. Brayden Sams pulled the Warriors back within one and Bryce Carter pushed Happy Valley to a 25-24 lead going into the locker room at half.
A quick 7-0 Cyclone run was sparked by Hayden Townsend and capped by an Alex Norwood bucket. Austin Hicks snapped the run for HV, but the Warriors were unable to get a run of their own. Robinson and Norwood hit shots to push the Elizabethton lead to double-digits, and EHS maintained a 49-36 lead at the end of the third.
