Friday Roundup: Cloudland splits, HV drops two

The ‘Landers used a strong second quarter to take command and never looked back at North Greene on Friday night.

After trailing 7-6 at the end of the first quarter, the Cloudland defense held the Huskies to just one point in the second quarter to give the ‘Landers a 21-8 lead at the half. From there, CHS slowly added to their lead to secure the crucial conference win.

Benfield had 22 points to pace Cloudland, while Colby Birchfield added eight points. Dalton Vines scored seven points.


North Greene 73, Cloudland 50 (girls)

The Lady ‘Landers didn’t have an answer for a hot shooting Lady Huskies squad.

North Greene came out of the gate hot as NG ran to a 22-13 lead in the first quarter, and 38-27 lead at the half. The third quarter proved to be too much to overcome as Cloudland was unable to cut into the Lady Huskies lead.

Shian Strickland had 15 points to lead Cloudland, while Trinity Vines added 12 points. Lisa Ellis and Payton Johnson had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Sullivan East 68, Happy Valley 66 (Girls)

A last second shot propelled the Lady Patriots past Happy Valley on Senior Night. Sullivan East’s Caitlin Stewart drained a 3-pointer in the closing second to take the victory.

The Lady Warriors erased a double-digit deficit to take a late lead, but the Lady Pats had the answer in the final seconds.

Senior Kalee Johnson led HV with 27 points, while Charli Bare tossed in 15 points. Bayley McGee had nine points.

Kara Stafford had 21 points for Sullivan East.

Sullivan East 82, Happy Valley 72 (boys)

Josh Hammonds scored 23 points, but the Warriors were unable to answer a late Sullivan East run in the fourth quarter. After HV kept pace with the Patriots through three quarters, Sullivan East outscored Happy Valley 21-13 in the final quarter.

Austin Hicks had 16 points, while Chris Young added 12 points. Braden Sams added 11 points for the Warriors.

Gavin Grubb led Sullivan East with a game high 35 points.
