Hampton left no doubt on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs jumped out early and never relented as HHS rolled to a 93-39 Region 1-A semifinal victory over Northview Academy at Chuckey Doak Middle School.

The win secures the Bulldogs a berth in Thursday’s Region 1-A final in addition to a substate berth. In the Region 1-A Final, Hampton will take on Cosby on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Hampton wasted no time jumping out front.

The Bulldogs scored the game’s first eight points – six of which came off the hands of Coby Jones. After Northview registered their first points of the game, Jose Velasquez and Dakota Crumley pushed the lead to double-digits. The teams traded points until the final minute as Velasquez and Charlie Butler extended the lead to 28-11 at the end of the first quarter.

The Bulldogs picked up where they left off to start the second.

Nathan Norris used an old fashioned 3-point play, ad Jones scored eight straight points as HHS held a 29-point advantage. That set the stage for Hampton to continue to roll as the Bulldogs maintained a 50-19 lead at the half.

Any thoughts of a Northview comeback was quickly erased to start the third.

After the Cougars bookmarked a Norris shot, Hampton pushed the lead to 65-23 mid third quarter with points from a variety of Bulldogs. The teams swapped points over the final two minutes of the quarter as HHS held a 73-29 lead entering the final quarter.

Holtsclaw and Butler hit shots to set the tone in the fourth quarter for Hampton, and the Bulldogs ended the game on a 9-0 run.

Jones was the game’s highest scorer with 18 points, while Holtsclaw finished with 16 points. Velasquez and Norris had 15 and 13 points, respectively. Butler tallied 11 points in the game.

The Cougars didn’t have a scorer reach double-digits in the game.
