It wasn’t pretty at times but Hampton got the job done.

The Lady Bulldogs advanced to the Region 1-A Semifinals with a 64-54 victory over Hancock County on Friday night.

With the win, Hampton advances to play Northview Academy – who dispatched Unaka – on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Chuckey-Doak High School.

HHS jumped out early as Alexus Grubbs and Megan Garland hit shots to push the HHS lead to 12-5 midway through the quarter. A Grubbs bucket gave Hampton a 21-8 lead after the first quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs used a Bree Hoyle jumper to get the second quarter stared. However, Hampton was unable to push the lead out as the Lady Indians hung tough. HHS maintained a 33-22 lead at the half.

The second half lead was almost like a yoyo for Hampton.

The Lady Bulldogs would push the lead to as many as 18 points during the third quarter, but the Indians would close back before Hampton would extend the lead back out.

Hancock closed the gap to eight points in the closing minutes, but Grubbs and company took care of business at the free throw line to advance.

Garland finished with 26 points, while Grubbs tallied 20 points – 12 of which came from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

Kinzey Hill and Hope Bridgeman had five points apiece.
