Hampton, Elizabethton hold steady in AP poll

Another week and a pair of victories sees Hampton and Elizabethton hold steady in the Tennessee Prep AP Poll.

In Class 2A, the Bulldogs remained fourth place after dismantling Sullivan North, who was ranked No. 5 entering Friday night and dropped to No. 8. Hampton received one first-place vote to tally 126 points – just seven away from No. 3 Adamsville. Boyd-Buchanan held down the top spot with the remaining first-place votes and 169 points, while Marion County was No. 2 with 145 points.

Mike Lunsford’s squad enters Week 9 with a 7-0 record, and will welcome South Greene to JC Campbell Stadium on Friday night.

In Class 3A, the Cyclones held serve in the No. 6 spot after cruising by Claiborne County. Elizabethton, who has won six straight games, tallied 100 points.  Alcoa claimed 15 of 17 first-place votes to claim the No. 1 spot, and CAK and CPA rounded out the top three. Liberty Magnet was No. 4 – 23 points ahead fo Elizabethton.

Shawn Witten’s team will host West Greene for Homecoming 2015 on Friday night.

Other local teams in the AP poll include Science Hill (No. 6 in Class 6A) and Greenville (No. 2 in Class 4A).
