Bulldogs 59
Longhorns 43
Coby Jones did his best Santa impersonation Monday night in Mountain City.
Jones gift-wrapped 29 points for Hampton (9-4), en route for a Bulldog win against the Longhorns in non-conference action.
Hampton went on to outscore Johnson County by a 12-4 margin in the first quarter and put things on overdrive in the final period with 21 points scored.
Jones had the outside game working, netting six 3’s in the victory.
Seniors Cheyenne Camillo (nine) and Stanley Valentine (eight) complimented the offensive attack while Stone Hutchinson, Chris Holtsclaw, Tyler Moody and Adam McClain each scored in the win.
Chase Philips and Jose Guzman led Johnson County with nine points each.
The Bulldogs will be back in action Dec. 29 entering the Harriman Christmas Classic against the host school.
Lady Bulldogs 40
Lady Longhorns 20
In the girls’ contest, eight Lady Bulldogs etched their names in the scorebook to double up the Lady Longhorns in the earlier contest.
Hampton (6-4) continued their impressive play after a pair of hard fought contests and Greene County powers, South Greene and Chuckey-Doak, in the previous two games.
While offense was the calling card Hampton held Johnson County scoreless in the second quarter and did not allow the Lady ‘Horns to eclipse double figure scoring in the other three periods.
A pair of HHS sophomores, Hope Bridgeman and Tatum Street, led head coach Bud Hazelwood’s crew with eight points each. Senior Kim Swearingen, returning from missing the past couple of games due to injury, added seven points while Shyanne Tuelle and Megan Garland added six apiece. Tori Miller, Alexus Grubbs and Madison Neumann combined for the other five points score in the triumph.
Kourtney Tolley led the Lady ‘Horns with a game-high 15-point effort.
The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 27 in the Johnson City Honda Invitational held at Daniel Boone High School. HHS received a bye and will play the winner of Friday’s Daniel Boone/Johnson County at 7:30 p.m.
