It was a Bulldog kind of night.
Hampton rolled to conference wins over Unaka on Tuesday night in Hampton. The Lady Bulldogs picked up a 58-35 victory over the Lady Rangers, while the Hampton boys took an 88-42 victory over the Rangers.
In the girls’ game, Hampton jumped out early.
HHS scored the game’s first 11 points and 13 of the first 16. The Lady Rangers were able to stop the Hampton run late in the frame. Hampton maintained a 21-6 lead going to the second quarter.
The teams traded points to open the second stanza before a quick 8-0 Hampton lead pushed the advantage to 20 points. A Unaka 3-pointer cut the gap to 33-16 at the half.
The third quarter saw the Lady Rangers trim the gap to 13-points, but Hampton hit back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers as part of an 11-0 run to increase the lead to 52-28 going to the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, the teams traded points as Hampton held on for the win.
Alexus Grubbs led all scorers with 23 points, while Shy Tuelle tallied 21 points. Megan Garland had five points.
The Rangers were led by Savannah Tipton’s 11 points. Lexi Garland added 10 points, while Cydney Forney had eight points.
The Hampton boys set the tone early in the varsity nightcap.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opening minutes, and increased the lead to 18-4 with just over two minutes remaining. With the teams trading points to end the quarter, HHS maintained a 23-10 lead going to the second quarter.
HHS nearly doubled-up the Rangers in the second as the Bulldogs maintained a 45-24 lead into the locker room.
Any thought of a Unaka comeback was erased in the third stanza as the Bulldogs outscored the Rangers 28-12 in the frame.
Jose Velazquez had 17 points to lead Hampton, while Chris Timmons, Ian Kelly and Adam McClain had 11 points apiece. Wyatt Lyons had 10 points.
Ryan Johnson had 14 points. Isaac Will and Austin Beauduez had 11 and 10 points, respectively.
