Hampton snaps skid by rolling past SG

Hampton got back on the winning track in a big way.

Hunter Davenport and the Bulldogs rolled to a 46-13 victory over South Greene on Homecoming at J.C. Campbell Stadium. With the win, the Bulldogs clinched the No. 3 seed for the playoffs. HHS improves to 2-6 on the season.


Davenport set the tone early as he raced 56 yards for the game’s opening touchdown. After a SG fumble, Davenport scored on a 40-yard touchdown. Jason Russell converted a two-point conversion to give Hampton a 16-0 lead early in the first quarter.

Davenport scored his third touchdown of the night and Skylar Cole tacked on a conversion as Hampton took a 24-0 lead into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, South Greene put the only points on the board with a short rushing touchdown from Damien Starnes. The Bulldogs maintained a 24-6 lead at the half.

Cole got a defensive score to open the third quarter with a pick-six from 30 yards out. Russell added a touchdown as HHS pushed the lead to 40-6 going to the final quarter.

Gavin Hardin caught a 21-yard pass from Russell to cap the Hampton scoring early in the second quarter.

Davenport had 134 yards on eight carries, while Russell had 108 yards on 14 carries.

Hampton is set to host Unaka on Thursday night.
