Hampton splits with Johnson County

It was a Thursday split for the Hampton basketball programs.

The Lady Bulldogs picked up a 48-35 home win over Johnson County, while the Longhorns edged Hampton 58-55.


In the girls’ game, Hampton used a strong second quarter to pull away. After leading 16-10 after a quarter of play, the Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Longhorns 12-4 in the second to take a 28-14 lead into the half.

From there, the Lady Bulldogs maintained the lead to secure the win.

Shy Tuelle had 22 points to lead the way. Kinzy Hill had eight points, while Stephanie Campbell and Kaysi Royston had six points apiece.

In the boys’ game, Hampton was unable to hold onto a late lead as Johnson County overcame a four-point deficit.

Hampton, who led 11-9 at the end of one, erased a halftime deficit to take the lead in the fourth quarter. However, the Longhorns had an answer in the closing stages.

Dru Owens had 26 points to lead Hampton, while Jaydon Livingston had 11 points. Gavin Hardin added 10 rebounds and seven points for the Bulldog cause.
