It was a pair of overtime thrillers at North Greene on Friday night. However, only one went the way of the visiting Bulldogs.

The Hampton boys held on for a 79-71 overtime victory over the Huskies, while the Lady Bulldogs came up short in a 52-48 overtime loss to the Lady Huskies.

In the boys’ game, the Bulldogs had to battle back early.

Hampton used an 11-0 run to end the first quarter, and that pushed them to a 22-21 advantage heading into the second quarter.

The teams were tied 40-40 at the half, and Hampton jumped out to a 56-50 advantage heading into the final eight minutes. NG, however, answered in the closing minutes.

Hampton had a chance in regulation, but a shot didn’t fall.

Adam McClain scored quickly in the extra period, and it was all Hampton from there.

McClain tallied 21 points. Wyatt Lyons scored 15 points, while Charlie Butler added 13 points.

In the girls’ game, North Greene controlled the game early.

The Lady Huskies held a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and turned that into a 19-10 advantage at the half.

Hampton closed the gap by outscoring NG 13-9 in the third quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs saw Alexus Grubbs help power the comeback, and Shy Tuelle helped Hampton take a one-point lead in the final minute. After NG tied the game up, the Lady Bulldogs were unable to convert a last-second shot as the game headed to overtime.

In the extra period, Hampton fell victim to foul and technical on the HHS bench for delay of game. That helped the Huskies take a four-point lead. From there, NG held onto to take the win.

Grubbs and Tuelle had 15 points apiece to lead Hampton.
