Hampton sweeps Johnson County in nonconference play

Hampton jumped back into nonconference play with outstanding results.

The Lady Bulldogs picked up a 77-62 victory at Johnson County, while the Bulldogs held on for a 61-58 win over the Longhorns.

In the girls’ game, Hampton jumped out to a 25-6 advantage in the first quarter, and turned it into a 44-23 at the half. From there, the Bulldogs maintained the advantage to cruise to the win.

Shy Tuelle tallied 28 points, while Megan Garland had 14 points. Alexus Grubbs had 10 points. Kinzie Hill and Hope Bridgeman had eight and six points, respectively.

The boys’ game saw the teams trade points in the early going with the Bulldogs holding a 16-14 advantage at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Hampton got some breathing room with a run, and took a 36-30 lead into the locker room at half.

Hampton maintained the advantage until Johnson County slowly cut into the lead in the fourth quarter. The Longhorns pulled within two-points in the final minute, but the Hampton defense stood tall as the Longhorns missed a game-tying three at the end of the game.

Coby Jones led the way with 18 points, while Adam McClain had 10 points. Nathan Norris added nine points. Jose Velazquez and Wyatt Lyons had eight points apiece.
