Hampton sweeps Unaka

The Lady Bulldogs wanted revenge, and that is exactly what they got.

Hampton avenged an early upset loss to Unaka on Friday night with a 53-30 victory. In the boys game, the Bulldogs made it a clean sweep with an 81-53 victory.

The Lady Bulldogs came out of the gate firing by racing to a 16-6 first quarter lead. Hampton extended the advantage to 34-12 at the half. The second half saw the Lady Bulldogs limit any chance of a Unaka comeback by holding the Lady Rangers to just four points in the third quarter.

Hampton was paced by Alexus Grubbs as she tossed in 19 points, while Shyanne Tuelle tossed in 12 points. Hope Bridgeman scored six points. Kim Swearingen and Tatum Street had five points apiece.

Unaka was paced by Sierra Wright as she scored six points along with Katlyne Weaver. Ashley Doss and Cheyenne Drew added five and three points, respectively.

In the boys’ game, Unaka pulled into the early lead, but Stanley Valentine and the Bulldogs captured a 16-10 lead after a quarter of play. The second quarter saw Hampton double up Unaka 24-9 to take a 40-19 lead into the locker room at half.

The Bulldogs kept Unaka at bay in the second half to preserve the win

Cheyenne Camillo and Valentine finished with 16 points apiece, while Coby Jones tallied 13 points. Stone Hutchinson tossed in eight points.

Unaka was led by Joe Searfoss and Kyler Lewis with 19 points apiece.
