Shyanne Tuelle delivered the first shot and Alexus Grubbs delivered the knockout blow.

Tuelle and Grubbs combined for 41 points as Hampton pulled away to take a 46-39 victory over Cloudland on Tuesday night.

The boys’ game saw Hampton slowly pull away for an 87-55 victory.

In the first quarter of the girls’, the teams traded points as Tuelle answered shots by Cloudland’s Payton Johnson and Erin Julian. After Trinity Vines pushed CHS ahead with 48 seconds left in the period, Tuelle answered off a Lady ‘Lander turnover to tie the game at 6-6 after a quarter of play.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a four-point lead, but Shian Strickland and Vines pushed Cloudland back into the lead midway through the quarter. The teams traded points before Stephanie Campbell drilled a last second 3-pointer as Hampton held a 17-14 advantage at the half.

Julian tied the game for Cloudland to open the second half. However, Megan Garland and Grubbs kicked started a 9-2 Hampton run with Grubbs accounting for seven points. The Lady ‘Landers tried to answer with points from Strickland and Julian, but Hampton held a 32-26 lead after three quarters of play.

Megan Lunsford and Strickland hit jumpers for CHS as the Lady ‘Landers limited Hampton to just 5 points over the first four minutes. However, Grubbs iced the win for Hampton at the line over the final minute.

Strickland led Cloudland with 15 points. Julian tallied 10 points for the Lady ‘Landers, and Johnson had six points and 13 rebounds in the game.

In the boys’ game, Hampton used a first quarter run to get some breathing room and never looked back against the ‘Landers.

Colby Birchfield opened the scoring with a jumper, and Chris Wagoner added two free throws to push CHS up to 4-2 in the early minutes. The Bulldogs, however, went on an 8-0 run sparked by four Nathan Norris points. Cloudland pulled back within a shot on a Josh Blair bucket, but Hampton took a 17-12 lead into the second quarter.

Dakota Crumley hit the second quarter’s first bucket, but Jesse Potter countered for Cloudland with a trey. The teams saw Hampton slowly work out to a double-digit lead. Colby Birchfield trimmed the gap with a CHS bucket, but Hampton ended the quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 37-22 lead into the half.

The third quarter continued to see Hampton set the tone. Wagoner and Birchfield hit early shots for the ‘Landers, but Crumley and Coby Jones played a large role in a 16-2 run in the third quarter. That allowed Hampton to maintain a 64-36 lead at the end of the quarter. From there, both teams saw younger players get on the court as Hampton captured the win.

Jones led Hampton with 16 points, while Crumley added 13 points. Adam McClain and Chris Holtsclaw had 12 and 11 points, respectively. Jared Andrews had 10 points.
