In a game of runs, Hampton girls’ basketball team was unable to find time for one more.

The Lady Bulldogs dropped a 49-45 loss at North Greene on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs also had a rough start in a 62-44 decision to the Huskies.

For the girls’ teams, it was a back-and-forth battle all night long. After trailing 12-9 going to the second quarter, a quick Hampton run put the Lady Bulldogs in front and they maintained a 24-21 advantage at the half.

In the third quarter, the roles were flipped as NG used a strong quarter to take a 37-30 lead into the fourth. Hampton battled back to regain a one-point lead early in the final quarter.

North Greene, however, answered the call with just over four minutes to play and would never relinquish the lead.
Hampton was able to get back within a single possession in the final minute, but that was as close as they could get.

Shy Tuelle had 19 points to lead Hampton, while Stephanie Campbell had 17 points.

North Greene set the tone early in the boys’ game.

The Huskies raced out to a 17-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended it to 21-3 early in the second. Hampton, however, started to battle back led by Dru Owens.

The Bulldogs pulled within 13 at the half, and continued to slowly pull back in the game as they trailed 41-35 going to the fourth. The Hampton rally, however, was unable to get any closer during the final eight minutes of the game.

Owens had a game-high 27 points, while Jordan Bentley and Jayden Livingston had six points each.
